Car Rental at Tipperary

Tipperary is a charming town in central rural Ireland, located in the county of the same name. The name derives from the Irish ‘Tiobraid Arann’, which means the ‘Well of Ara’, in reference to the River Ara, around which the town was built. Tipperary’s history has its origins in medieval times and though its fortifications dating from this era have disappeared, the town still has an attractive and historic vibe, characterised by its wide streets leading off from the long main road, Main Street. This street contains many charming shop fronts dating from the 19th century, and two historical monuments, one to the poet Charles Kickham and the other to the Maid of Erin, in commemoration of the Irish patriots known as the Manchester Martyrs. Other attractions in the town include Tipperary Racecourse and the Excel Centre with its theatre and cinema, and there are many friendly pubs where you might take in some live music.

The town is a gateway to County Tipperary, the beautifully scenic Golden Vale and its stunning geography of mountains, rivers and lakes, along with historic ruins, such as the Rock of Cashel and Cahir Castle. A car hired in Tipperary can take the visitor to the area of the Galtee Mountains, a Mecca for hill walking and pony trekking, with sweeping panoramic views across the countryside.

The closest Enterprise branch to Tipperary is located in Limerick, just a 45-minute drive away. You can even pre-book online for convenience and enjoy the freedom and flexibility to explore this fascinating area at your own pace.

Attractions in Tipperary

The market town of Tipperary is well worth taking some time to gently explore, from the attractive Main Street and its 19th-century shopfronts and streetscapes to the many welcoming pubs. The Maid of Erin monument on Main Street commemorates the Irish patriots William Philip Allen, Michael Larkin and Michael O'Brien, collectively known as the Manchester Martyrs because they were hanged for the murder of a police officer in Manchester, England, an act that took place in 1867. The three were members of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, which was committed to ending British rule in Ireland.
